ByBecca

I’m Rebecca Kelman, Painter, Fluid Acrylic Artist, Resin Countertop Maker, and Business Owner.

  • Hi, I’m Rebecca Kelman, Painter, Fluid Acrylic Artist, Resin Countertop Maker, and Business Owner.

How did I get here and why are you seeing me here?

I have always been creative. I’ve always strived to put beauty in the world, but life takes us where we’re meant to be. Putting beauty in the world did not come first. My college degree is in Economics with a minor in Art History. Because making a living from Art is hard, I spent some years working for stock and bond brokerage houses where I was a Sales Assistant, a Registered Sales Assistant and Representative, a Trading Liaison on an OTC Desk, a general Trading Desk Liaison, you know, a regular Corporate America Person, and then......

In 1999, my husband and I bought a house.

My daughter asked for a custom paint job for her room and I thought I’d do it myself. Who knew that a simple request would start me down a new path? Certainly not me!

I had seen Martha Stewart rag a wall with plastic wrap on TV, and thought...... I can do that...... and the rest of what she wants, I can learn how from TV. Well, with a job and two children, that “little” project took a year and a half, during which time, I taught myself to paint flowers and fences, or should I say how not to paint fences, and trees and to mix colors from house paint and colorant tubes. It made me think that new things were possible. I learned to paint on smaller things like pottery, wood, and, glassware because I did not want to have to climb ladders every day. On September 11, 2001, while sitting at home with lots of nervous energy, I painted a Flowerpot. A few days later, a friend stopped by to pick her son up from a play date and she saw it and asked me where I’d bought it. She was very surprised to hear that I had made it and told me that I should be doing this for a living.

In that moment, ByBecca was born. Of course, it took a couple of years to get things up and running. Then it took some more time to settle on a niche, (which have all turned out to be a part of an evolutionary process). First, it was Flowerpots, then Jewelry Boxes, then Glassware (mostly wine glasses for weddings) bringing me to “The Now” when I make Abstract Paintings on canvas with Fluid Acrylic Resin Art on countertops. Here I am, 25 years later still wanting and needing to put beauty in the world.
